Day 01: Arrive Paro & transfer to Thimphu

Welcome at Paro Airport located at 2200Mts. Complete your immigration formalities and baggage collection afterwards you will be met by our representative and you will be driven away to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. En-route stop at Chuzom, the union of Thimphu and Paro rivers. Three dissimilar style of stupas; Tibetan, Nepalese and Bhutanese embellish this convergence. On arrival, check-into the hotel. In the evening have a fact-finding walk across Thimphu on the main street and market area. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 2: Thimpu:

After leisurely breakfast continue to Madhu Ganga boat ride.

In the morning stopover at handmade paper mill, School of Arts and crafts (closed on Sundays, government holidays) where students acquire 13 different arts used predominantly in Bhutan. Continue your visit to national library & Bhutan museum. Also experience Archery at the Museum Itself. Drive pass by memorial Chorten constructed in reminiscence of the 3rd King. Visit Buddha viewpoint, Changangkha Lhakhang, the oldest temple in the valley, Enclosure where national animal, Takin are kept and Zilukha Nunnery. Overnight at the hotel in Thimphu.

Day 3: Thimphu – Punakha (75 km, 3 hrs approx):

Today’s drive clears through (3100mts) formulating the most beautiful pass in Bhutan. 108 Druk built over the pass by queen mother in 2003 marks the pass more important than another passes. When the climate permits one can enjoy a stunning view of the highest mountains of Bhutan at a sight that expanses almost 180 degrees.

After a photo break, we will continue our drive to Punakha. On arrival, check into the hotel. Afternoon, we will visit the most beautiful, which houses the most developed temple in the country. The Dzong, showcase the best example of the arts and crafts of Bhutan. Overnight at the hotel in Punakha.

Day 04: Daytrip to Chimi Lhakhang from Punakha

After breakfast have a day trip to Chimi Lhakhang, situated on a hill in the centre of the valley. It is committed to Lama Drukpa Kuenley, who in the late 15th century used absurdity, songs and contemptable behavior to sensationalize his teachings and due to this also is recognized as “Divine Madman”.

This temple is also known as the temple of fertility. It is about 30-minutestroll across field from the road to the temple. The track leads across rice fields to the tiny settlement of Pana, meaning “field”. It then trailsto a tiny stream downhill to Yoaka and across more fields before making a short hike to Chimi Lhakhang. Overnight at the hotel in Paro.

Day 05: Punakha – Bumthang (205 km, approx 7 hours’ drive)

After breakfast, get-up-and-gothrough Pele-la pass (3,300m/10,830 ft), the conventional boundary amid east and west. The road is patent by a large white chorten prayer flags. On the way stop at Chendbji Chorten, patterned on Kathmandu’s Swayambhunath Stupa, with eyes panted at four cardinal points. It was built in the 18th century by Lama Shida from Tibet, to cover the remnants of an evil spirit that was restrained at this spot.

Further forward visit Trongsa Dzong. This Dzong architecture governs the entire Trongsa horizon dwarfing the neighboring buildings. Constructed in 1648, it was the base of power over central and eastern Bhutan. Both the first and second King ruled the country from this ancient seat.

Then move to Bumthang, located at 68 km from Trongsa, over the Yutong-la pass (3,400m/ 11,155 ft). The road winds steep up to the pass, 28 km from Trongsa, then turns to coniferous forest into a wide, open cultivated valley identified as the Chumey valley.

After some rest enjoy a sightseeing tour of Kandy, a UNESCO world heritage site. Kandy was abode to Sri Lanka’s last independent Kingdom, which survived two centuries of colonial intrusion before finally falling to the British at the beginning of the nineteenth century. Continue to visit the Temple of the tooth. In the evening, you will visit a Kandyan Dance performance.

Enjoy shopping in Kandy as it is famous for its shopping, gems and jewellery, handicrafts, batiks, silks etc. Night stay is in Kandy.Overnight at the hotel in Bumthang.

Day 06: Bumthang

Bumthang is the name given to amalgamation of four valleys – Chumey, Choekhor, Tang and Ura. The fascinating valley is the focus of the nation and home to some of the oldest Buddhist temples and monasteries. Its calmslanted hills offer abundantly of walking prospects to many temples that dot this valley.

Visit to Kurje Lhakhang, where the saint Padmasambhava restrained a local demon and left his body inscriptioned on a rock., the Jambey Lhakhang (7th century temple), Tamshing Lhakhang (housing some of the oldest wall paintings in Bhutan) and Jakar Dzong (administrative center of the region). Walk in the village, visit the little handicrafts shop at the entrance and possibly take snacks at a local restaurant.

Day 07: Bumthang / Punakha (205 km, approx 7 hours’ drive)

After breakfast drive to Punakha on the way visit Ta Dzong, a tubular stone structure rising five storeys, was built in 1652 by Chogyal Minjur Tempa, Overnight at the hotel in Punakha.

Day 08: Punakha – Paro (125 km, 4hr drive):

After breakfast drive back to Paro plunging back On from Dochu La, trail the way back up the histrionic Wang Chhu and Paro Chhu river valleys, before crossing across Paro on near the north end of the valley. On arrival after visit Watchtower, which now houses National Museum. The extensive collection includes historic thangkha paintings, textiles, weapons & armour, household objects and a rich assortment of natural and historic relics. Overnight at the hotel in Paro.

Day 09: Paro:

After breakfast have excursion to Taktshang Monastery (approx 5 hours walk): It is one of the most famous of Bhutan’s monasteries, hovering on the side of a cliff 900m above the Paro valley floor. It is said that Guru Rinpoche reached here on the back of a tigress and meditated at this monastery and hereafter it is called ‘Tiger’s Nest’. Afternoon drive to a crumbling fortress where Bhutanese warriors fought Tibetan intruders centuries ago. The snowy dome of sacred Chomolhari, “mountain of goddess” can be seen in all her magnificence from the approach road to the Dzong. Overnight at the hotel in Paro.
