Kausani is a destination for Himalayan tourists. It is located 120 Km from Nainital, 53 km North of Almora. This place offers a 350 km view of the Himalayan peaks like Trishul, Nanda Devi and Panchchuli. The view is so clear that one gets a feeling of the snow being within touching distance. There are very few places in the Himalayas which can compare with the beauty of Kausani - a picturesque hill station famous for its scenic splendor. 
 
Kausani provides an enchanting sunrise over the Himalayas - a rich experience which willremain alive in your memories for lifetime.  
 
Kausani also holds importance because Mahatma Gandhi stayed here for a long stretch in 1929 at the Anashakti Ashram. While driving towards Kausani there is a place about 10 kms before Kausani from Almora, called Rudhradhari Cave & Falls. This is supposed to be a place frequented visited by Sonia Gandhi. 
 
Mahatma Gandhi called Kausani the 'Switzerland of India', due to similarity in landscape.

The hill resort of Kausani is located in the Kumaon Region of Uttarakhand. Situated atop a narrow ridge, at 6075 feet Kausani stands high at an altitude of 1890 metres above sea level. 
 
Kausani offers a 350 km view of the Himalayan peaks like Trisul, Nanda Devi and Panchchuli.
 
Kausani lies on the atop the ridge amidst dense Pine trees overlooking Someshwar valley on one side and Garur and Baijnath Katyuri valley on the other on Almora-Bageshwar-Didihat Highway.

Kausani experiences snowfall during the months of December, January and Feb, thus these three months are the best time for Honeymooners & couples. The hill resort of Kausani is a retreat in the summer months and may be visited during April-June and September-November.

Summer months will require light woollen clothing and in winters heavy woollen. 
 
It is here at Anashakti Ashram Mahatma Gandhi wrote his treatise Anasakti ('detachment') Yoga - Gita-Anashakthi Yoga. The ashram is well stocked with books and photographs of Mahatma Gandhi's life. There is a small prayer room in this ashram where prayers are held every morning and evening. 
 
Kausani is a very quite place far from the madding crowd. Further ahead from the hill resort of Kausani you may plan for excursions to various other places of tourist interest. There are the hill resorts of Nainital, Almora and Ranikhet that are easily accessible from Kausani, offer wondrous vistas of the Himalayas and make excellent excursion options. Then there are the temple towns of Baijnath and Bageshwar that attract several pilgrims and tourists every year and are in close proximity to Kausani. The nature lovers may even go on an excursion to Binsar from Kausani. Binsar boasts of a bird sanctuary that is worth visiting and the panoramic views of the Himalayan peaks like the Nanda Devi. 
 
Baijnath Baijnath :- 
Temple Baijnath is known for its ancient temple which is situated in the centre of the town at the confluence of the rivers Sarayu and Gomti and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Baijnath Temple is just 17 kms away from Kausani on the banks of River Gomti.

How to Reach Kausani by Air :- 
The nearest airport at Pantnagar 180 Kms. The closest operational airport to Kausani is Naini Saini in Pithoragarh, which is approximately 142 km away. The closest International/National airport is New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport - Palam Airport (405 kms from Kausani)
 
How to Reach Kausani by Rail :- 
Take your train from Old Delhi railway station or from Nizamuddin. Nearest Railway Station is at Kathgodam. Kathgodam Railway Station is about 146 km away from Kausani city. The distance from the railway station to Kausani can be covered in nearly 4 hours.

SHATABDI EXPRESS:- Runs between New Delhi-Kathgodam-New Delhi twice a week (Friday & Sunday) during summer vacations.

From Kathgodam the drive to Kausani takes approx Two Hour thirty minutes and from Lal Kuan the drive to Nainital is approx Three hours.
 
Kindly Note :- Though time varies to reach Kausani as it depends on the traffic, time of the journey (morning daytime or evening) and the mode of Transportation.
